Paddock Motorsport dominated Sunday's GT Cup races by taking two 1-2 finishes in the GTH class, with the #26 car of Tom Roche and Tehmur Chohan winning both the sprint race and pit-stop race from the #25 of Adam Hatfield and Kavi Jundu.
It was Tom and Adam who were in the car for the sprint race, and crucially, the team had opted to put slick tyres on both cars - a risk, given that it was still raining ever so slightly as the cars headed to the grid.
The race started with two safety car laps due to the weather, went green briefly, then returned to safety car conditions after a first corner crash. By the time the safety car came in for good, there were less than ten minutes left, and with the track much drier, the Paddock cars were both in a great position.
Already P5 and P6 in class, they were both able to rise up through the field, flying past all the other GTHs and even some GT3s and GTCs who had stayed out on wet tyres. In the end Tom Roche was not just the GTH winner, but P5 overall - the best result a GTH entry has managed this season - and Adam Hatfield followed with P2 in class, also making the overall top 10.
Tehmur Chohan and Kavi Jundu took over to start the pit-stop race a few hours later, both starting high up the field ahead of a number of higher class cars, due to the strong performance in the sprint. Tehmur Chohan led for a while, but both cars were reeled in by the championship-leading #50 Porsche, which was P1 in class by the time the GTH pit window opened.
With ten minutes left the #26, with Tom Roche behind the wheel again, had closed that gap and was fighting for the lead once more. A daring move by Tom up the inside at Maggots and Becketts gave him the lead back, which he would not relinquish. A few minutes later Adam Hatfield caught up too, and though he had to be a bit more forceful, he also got past the Porsche - making it another 1-2 for Paddock.
Meanwhile, the #44 of John Whitehouse and Steve Ruston ended up P8 in 3 of the 4 races, with Steve's 6th place in the Saturday sprint being the best finish of the weekend. Though they weren't as successful as the GTH cars, both drivers still impressed, particularly in Sunday's pit-stop race where they fought back from P20 overall on the grid to make the top ten.
