Paddock Motorsport's #11 GT3 led Sunday's British GT race at Spa-Francorchamps before eventually taking a P7 finish, as the #26 managed P9 in the GT4 class.
Having qualified P5, both Paddock's #11 and Fox Motorsport's #40 car were initially set to be dropped to the back of the GT3 field. Before the race, however, the decision was appealed and our McLaren went from P5 as expected.
Graham Davidson, driving his second race with Paddock as a stand-in for Kelvin Fletcher, had been the fastest AM driver on Saturday. He showed that pace again in the race, immediately taking P4, and although he briefly dropped to P6 a few laps later, it was from there that Graham started to launch a fierce charge.
His first move was a daring pass up the inside of two cars at Les Combes after he'd caught them on the Kemmel straight, jumping straight up from P6 to P4. It wasn't too long before he was right up behind the leader Adam Balon, and he promptly caught and passed Balon - once again, on the Kemmel straight.
However, the stewards were investigating an incident between Graham and Tillbrook in the #77 car, who had been in P3 before spinning. There had been contact, and the stewards eventually handed down a 10-second stop-go penalty for our #11 for the collision.
A safety car period for an accident at Eau Rouge followed, which meant that the field bunched up and when Graham came in to serve the penalty, we dropped down further than we would otherwise, ending up in P13. The fightback from there was impressive; we were able to get back into the top 10 before cars started to dive into the pits.
Taking over in P9, which soon became P7, Martin Plowman saw out the rest of the race with good pace which ensured that finishing position was not under serious threat. At the very end, he even caught up to the Mercedes of De Pauw, gaining on him as they both fought through a pack of GT4s. At the very last corner of the very last lap, Plowey came extremely close to making a pass, but De Pauw held on, so it was P7 for our #11 - P5 in the GT3PA category.
In the GT4 class it was a P9 finish, or P6 in GT4S. Starting from P5, the #26 couldn't replicate the pace it had on Saturday. Losing a place on the first lap, neither Ashley Marshall or Moh Ritson could get it back into the top 5 as they both struggled with the tyres.
Holding P7 when the car came in for the pit-stop and driver change, we rejoined in P9, where Moh was to spend the rest of the stint. The final result of P9 will at least reward the team with P8 points as the car directly in front was a one-off entry, ineligible for points.
The British GT Championship returns in September when we head to Brands Hatch, before the championship ends with another visit to Donington Park in October to close the season.
