Paddock Motorsport will field a reworked driver line-up aboard its McLaren Artura GT4 for the Intelligent Money British GT Championship season finale, with McLaren factory driver Tom Gamble joining the team for the Donington Decider on October 21/22.
Gamble will slot into the #7 Artura GT4 alongside Kavi Jundu for the final two-hour race of the campaign, with the car remaining as a Pro-Am entry. The new-look GT4 pairing will run alongside the regular 720S GT3 Evo entry of Mark Smith and Martin Plowman.
Although only 21-years old, Gamble has already marked himself out as a star on the international GT racing scene. Ginetta Junior champion in 2017, Gamble then became a race winner in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship and won the coveted Autosport BRDC Award in 2018, earning himself a Formula 1 test with McLaren in the process.
Since switching to sportscar racing, Gamble won the European Le Mans Series’ LMP3 title in 2020, before finishing runner-up in the LMP2 division a year later. He also has experience racing in IMSA in America and two starts at the Le Mans 24 Hours to his name. Gamble joined McLaren as a factory GT driver at the start of this year before helping the Optimum Motorsport team to Gold class victory at the world-famous CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa in its McLaren 720S GT3 Evo.
Donington will mark Gamble’s second British GT appearance, following a one-off at Snetterton aboard a Century Motorsport BMW back in 2019.
Gamble and Jundu will be aiming for a strong finish to the British GT campaign at Donington as Paddock has continued to unlock setup and performance gains from the new Artura GT4. It is hoped that Gamble’s experience will only aid the team in this area.
Tom Gamble says: “I’m really excited to join Paddock Motorsport for the final British GT round. I’ve done a lot of development work with the Artura GT4, but this will be the first time I’ve had the chance to race it, so that will be really good fun. The car will be quite different from the LMP2s I’ve been racing this year, but the Artura GT4 shares some similarities with the current GT3 car. I’ve always found that I adapt pretty well between the different cars I drive, there are some different techniques to use for each, but both the McLaren GT4 and GT3 are mega cars to drive. Donington is my local track and one of my favourites. It’s been quite a while since I’ve had the chance to race there so I’m really looking forward to heading back there and seeing if we can round off the season with a strong result for Paddock and the Artura GT4.”
Paddock Motorsport team principal Martin Plowman adds: “We’re delighted to have Tom join us for the final British GT round, and we’re all excited to see what he can do aboard our Artura GT4. Tom already has a brilliant pedigree in European racing and knows how to get the best out of a McLaren GT car. He should form a strong partnership with Kavi too as Tom is well-versed in Pro-Am racing and Kavi has been improving in both speed and confidence as the season has gone on. With Tom and Kavi, we feel we have a driver pairing capable of going out and making a statement at Donington.”
The Intelligent Money British GT Championship Donington Decider takes place over the weekend of October 21/22.
