GT Cup: First GT Cup class win of 2022 for Paddock
GT Cup Report: Rounds 9, 10, 11 & 12, Snetterton 300
The final race of the Snetterton weekend saw Paddock Motorsport's first class win of the GT Cup season - although which of our two cars won the GTH class remains provisional.
On the podium yesterday it was Kavi Jundu and Adam Hatfield on the top step; however, their #25 car was later disqualified from the pit-stop race - the runners up, Tehmur Chohan and Moh Ritson, were therefore promoted to P1. Moh, who was standing in for Tom Roche, was actually first to cross the line anyway, but the #26 car had a time penalty imposed for exceeding track limits, meaning they were initially classified as second.
The disqualification is under appeal, so hopefully the initial result will be reinstated.
The pace had been there in both GTH cars all weekend, but only at the end did it all come together. On Saturday, Kavi suffered a puncture in the sprint and had to fight back after an early collision in the pit-stop race, while a problem meant Tehmur and Moh didn't even get to start Saturday's second race. Both cars were flying on Sunday morning, too - Tehmur eventually took 3rd place, after Adam Hatfield came to a halt while leading. Adam did at least have time to set the fastest lap, putting his car on pole for the pit-stop race.
The GT3 entry of Steve Ruston and John Whitehouse had also looked like a contender for a race win, although they didn't manage to get onto the podium in the end. Steve Ruston had managed 4th place in the first race of the weekend, which was followed by a P7 in Saturday's pit-stop race and P5 on Sunday morning.
As with the GTH cars, it was the last race of the weekend where Steve and John had the most pace, taking the lead as they came into the pits later than the other cars. John Whitehouse fought with the leaders before eventually dropping to 3rd, and then 6th once a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pits had been served.
The weekend stands us in good stead for our return to Snetterton the weekend after next for British GT, by which time we should have an update about the outcome of the appealed result.
