Paddock Motorsport looked likely to take a first-ever GT4 podium in British GT but came away with nothing after a desperately unlucky race in which Moh Ritson was hit by the car behind while trying to take P2.
Moh was partnered by Adam Hatfield for this weekend, who has been driving the #25 Paddock car in the GT Cup. The pair qualified P9 in GT4 on Saturday, but when the race started on Sunday afternoon it was quickly lead there was a lot more pace to come.
Immediately jumping into P7, it wasn’t long before Moh made the move up to P5 with an excellent pass at Surtees. He promptly caught P4 and passed him, and then caught up to P3, the Toyota Supra of Tom Edgar. A collision between some of the leading GT3s brought out a safety car, but Moh had overtaken the Toyota just beforehand.
That put him not just into the podium places, but also in a position to challenge for an even better spot. As Moh looked to go around the outside and into P2, he was suddenly hit by the Supra behind him, putting him off the track and into the gravel.
It was from P3 to the side of the road as the damage sustained eventually caused Moh to come off track and retire. With the collision happening less than an hour into the race, meaning Adam Hatfield didn't get the chance to take part in the race at all.
The #11 GT3 also had a troublesome race. An exciting first lap saw Kelvin Fletcher take two positions immediately, also moving from P9 in class to P7. However, the McLaren's door would not stay shut. As he passed the pits on the second lap it came open, forcing Kelvin to cruise round at a slow and safe pace until he could come back to the pits and have the team fix it.
The trouble left our #11 at the very back of the field, putting paid to any chance of competing at the front. There were some exciting moments for Kelvin coming through the field - such as when he unlapped himself from the RJN and Team Parker GT3s out of Clark Curve - but neither he nor Martin Plowman could have done anything to improve the final result.
Only one round of this year's Intelligent Money British GT Championship remains, with the 'Donington Decider' taking place at Donington Park in just over a month's time.
